6 Reasons Why Everyone Should Learn a Second Language

6 Reasons Why Everyone Should Learn a Second Language

Learning languages has been, I think, one of the best things I could have ever done for myself. Learning and practicing languages other than my native tongue has made me feel wiser, made my brain sharper, and opened me up to other countries and opportunities.

The majority of my foreign language education has revolved around Spanish. I started in high school, minored in it in college, studied abroad in Spain in order to immerse myself, and continue to practice it on my own today. Throughout the years, I’ve also dabbled with German, Icelandic, Gaelic and French. All of these have been fun, if interesting and challenging at times, to learn and helped out in some way.

A Master Guide to Practicing the Yamas & Niyamas

A Master Guide to Practicing the Yamas & Niyamas

Surprise, another post on the yamas and niyamas! I know I said last week that we were wrapping up the Yama and NIyama series, but I decided to include a bonus post. In completing the individual posts, one for each tenant, I thought it might be really useful to have one final post that provided an overview of all ten, creating a master list that you can come back to as you practice these tenants in your daily life.

So, what I've done below is provide a list of all ten tenants with short descriptions and what practicing each tenant will bring into your life. Each one is also linked to its corresponding full post; this way if you'd like to be reminded what a certain tenant is all about you can easily get to that post to refresh your memory. I hope this can be used as a guide for the whole series and your continued practice in living out the yogic philosophy.

Santosha | How Contentment Can Radically Change Our Lives

Santosha | How Contentment Can Radically Change Our Lives

Welcome back to the yamas and niyamas series after a little break. We're moving right along, and this week Santosha is up. Santosha means contentment in Sanskrit and asks us to take refuge within a calm center.

In order to practice contentment, we have to move towards opening our heart to gratitude for what we have in this current moment. We are asked to be thankful and practice not seeking.

A Year of Exploration and Healing

A Year of Exploration and Healing

Hello lovelies,

Welcome to a new year, 2018! It's hard to believe another year has passed, and for me, it's hard to believe all that's happened over the course of just 365 days. It's been one whirlwind of a year that's taken me from living and working in Boston, to moving to Iceland where I returned to school, and all the way over to Ireland. There are so many things I have to be grateful for looking back, all the opportunities and growth I've been afforded, and at times I still can't believe where I've ended up.
